Description: | SOLAR RADIATION PRESSURE IS THE DOMINATING NON-GRAVITATIONAL PERTURBATION FOR SATELLITES ABOVE HEIGHTS OF ABOUT 600 KM. AN EARTH ORBITING SATELLITE EXPOSED TO SOLAR RADIATION, EXPERIENCES A SMALL FORCE ARISING FROM THE ABSORPTION OR REFLECTION OF PHOTONS. THE EFFECT DEPENDS ON THE SATELLITE’S MASS AND SURFACE AREA. THE SOLAR RADIATION COMPONENT IS USUALLY ESTIMATED DURING A PRECISE ORBIT DETERMINATION (POD) PROCESS. THE PROJECT WILL EXPLORE A NUMBER OF APPROXIMATE AND MORE SOPHISTICATED MODELS IN A POD PROCESS TO OBTAIN MORE ACCURATE ESTIMATES OF SOLAR RADIATION PRESSURE. |
