Description: THE AIM OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS TO STUDY ENERGY REDUCTION SOLUTIONS IN THE INDUSTRIAL PROCESSING PROCESS OF GREEK COFFEE. IN THIS CONTEXT, THE SAVING OF ENERGY THROUGH THE RECYCLING OF HOT STREAMS WILL BE EXAMINED AS WELL AS THE UTILIZATION OF THE BY-PRODUCTS OF THE COFFEE PROCESSING INDUSTRY SUCH AS THE SKIN OF COFEE DERIVED FROM THE ROASTING STAGE. THE PROJECT WILL BE DIVIDED INTO TWO STAGES: A) RECYCLING OF HOT STREAMS. DURING THE ROASTING STAGE, AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE PROCESS THE HOT STREAM IS DISCHARGED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. HOWEVER THE HOT STREAM CAN BE RECYCLED THROUGH A HEAT PUMP AND COULD BE REUSED IN THE ROASTING STAGE. THE GOAL IS TO SAVE ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND REDUCE POLLUTION BY 50%. B) UTILIZATION OF COFFEE PROCESSING BY-PRODUCTS. STUDY OF THE POSSIBILITY OF UTILIZATION OF THE SKIN RESULTING FROM THE ROASTING STAGE FOR ENERGY PRODUCTION WITH TECHNIQUES SUCH AS: PYROLYSIS, GASIFICATION AND DIRECT COMBUSTION. IN ADDITION, THE POSSIBILITY OF RECOVERING VALUABLE COMPONENTS WILL BE STUDIED.
FINALLY, THE PROPOSED SOLUTIONS WILL BE EVALUATED IN TERMS OF THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT AND COST.
