| Description: | THE AIM OF REACTPACK IS TO DEVELOP THINNER, SINGLE-LAYER RECYCLABLE, WITH INCREASED AMOUNT OF RECYCLED MATERIALS, ACTIVE PACKAGING, AND ACTIVE BIODEGRADABLE PACKAGING. IN ADDITION, THE INTEGRATION OF NATURAL BIOACTIVE INGREDIENTS FROM BY-PRODUCTS OF THE OLIVE, WINE OR TOMATO PROCESSING INDUSTRIES, AS WELL AS ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS, IS EXPECTED TO ENHANCE THE NEW PACKAGING MATERIALS AND COMPENSATE FOR THE PROBLEMS ARISING FROM THEIR MODIFIED, LOWER BARRIER PROPERTIES. FOR THIS PURPOSE, AFTER PACKAGING OPTIMIZATION PROCESSES AND MEASURING THE PROPERTIES OF THE NEW MATERIALS, A SHELF LIFE STUDY WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THREE CATEGORIES OF PACKAGED FOODS: A) LONG-LIFE FOODS: CRACKERS AND COOKIES, B) MEAT PRODUCTS: FRESH RAW MEAT AND C) LEAFY VEGETABLES (FRESH CUT SALADS), USING THE PROPOSED PACKAGING MATERIALS. |
