| Description: | THE WATERSENS PROJECT DEMONSTRATES THE BENEFITS OF SIX DECENTRALIZED WATER MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGIES AND PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE DECISION-MAKING FRAMEWORK FOR THEIR SELECTION, DESIGN, AND INTEGRATION INTO THE MODERN SYSTEM. THESE TECHNOLOGIES ADDRESS VARIOUS WATER SOURCES AND USES ACROSS DIVERSE GEOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC CONTEXTS. IN THIS CONTEXT, THE NTUA RESEARCH TEAM AIMS TO MODERNIZE SMALL-SCALE CISTERN TECHNOLOGY, INTEGRATING IT INTO THE CONTEMPORARY WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM. A RAINWATER COLLECTION CISTERN WILL BE CONSTRUCTED, EQUIPPED WITH A WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM TO MAKE IT SUITABLE FOR NON-POTABLE HOUSEHOLD USE. THE DESIGN, MAINTENANCE, AND OPERATION OF CISTERNS WILL BE VALIDATED TO MEET MODERN STANDARDS, AND THE EFFICIENCY OF RAINWATER HARVESTING WILL BE ASSESSED AT BOTH THE HOUSEHOLD AND BROADER COMMUNITY SCALE. |
