| Description: | NOISE AT INTENSIVE CARE UNITS (ICUS) ORIGINATING FROM THE OPERATION OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND THE WORK OF MEDICAL AND NURSING STAFF IS A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM THAT NEGATIVELY AFFECTS BOTH THE RECOVERY OF PATIENTS AND THE WORKING CONDITIONS OF MEDICAL STAFF. IN ICUS, NOISE DISRUPTS THE QUALITY OF SLEEP OF PATIENTS, WHICH IS CRUCIAL FOR THEIR RECOVERY, INCREASING THE LENGTH OF HOSPITAL STAY AND POTENTIALLY WORSENING THEIR CLINICAL CONDITION. NOISE AFFECTS NOT ONLY PATIENTS BUT ALSO MEDICAL STAFF, DISTRACTING THEIR ATTENTION, REDUCING THEIR CONCENTRATION AND INCREASING THE RISK OF MEDICAL ERRORS. ADDRESSING NOISE IN HEALTH UNITS REQUIRES AN INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH AIMING TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS AND THE WORKING CONDITIONS OF MEDICAL STAFF. IN THIS EXPERIMENTAL STUDY, FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE EXPOSURE TO NOISE OF PATIENTS IN AN ICU WILL BE MAPPED IN REAL TIME IN ORDER TO CORRELATE IT WITH ITS EFFECT ON THEIR CLINICAL CONDITION. THE ANALYSIS OF THE DATA THAT WILL BE COLLECTED WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE MORE RATIONAL MANAGEMENT OF CRISIS SITUATIONS WITHIN THE ICU THAT SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE NOISE LEVELS. |
